Rising pop star Chappell Roan, who recently expressed her struggles with fame, has since returned to the stage Cancel festival Appearances at Everything goes last week in New York and Maryland.

On Tuesday, Roan kicked off an animated set at the FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. She didn't address the rejections directly, but rather turned her attention to the queer community in the crowd and thanked them for allowing her to do her job.

“I know how hard it is to be queer in the Midwest and South. And I understand. So I'm very grateful that I can be here and show up – and do my job,” she said on stage. “And I just have to remind myself that that’s why I’m doing it. …I can see and feel you. I needed this so much when I was 15. I felt completely misunderstood and alone.

“I hope you know that you are wanted and welcome here, no matter what you are,” she continued. “You are valued and loved. I say it again because I feel like sometimes it's hard to hear these things, or maybe you don't hear them at all. But when you’re here, you’re loved and appreciated.”
