The Kansas City Chiefs could have another offensive weapon returning to the lineup very soon as the team prepares the roster for its Week 5 game with the New Orleans Saints.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Thursday and explained the rise of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who began the season on the NFI list due to his ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder.

“Clyde (Edwards-Helaire), as you saw, was elevated. He has a 21-day window,” Reid said. “We’ll just get him going again here and see how he’s doing and how he progresses here over the next few days.”

The NFL's non-football injury list is a roster designation for players injured outside of NFL activities. Players can be placed on the NFI list if they sustained injuries during personal training, in accidents or due to pre-existing conditions. The 21-day window will be used to get Edwards-Helaire back up to speed and integrate into a role on offense.

“Yeah, so we're going to practice with the scout team today, give them a few reps there and just let him get going again,” Reid said. “He is in good shape. He’s been training, so just get him back into the football game.”

Edwards-Helaire will join a crowded backfield that includes rookie Carson Steele and veterans Kareem Hunt and Samaje Perine. Isiah Pacheco continues to recover from his injury and may not be available until the end of the season.
