CNN Instant Poll: No clear winner in vice president debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance JD Vance mocks the MSNBC host for checking out the “most obvious exaggeration” about his sons' eating habits

Rice was the engine of the Chiefs' passing offense earlier this season. His ability to win from the line and devour YAC has kept the chains moving for the undefeated Chiefs. While KC has not confirmed the extent of the knee injury, the second-year wideout is out indefinitely.

With Rice out, Marquise Brown likely out until the postseason at the earliest, and running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve, the Chiefs' offensive plans hatched for this offseason have been put on hold.

With Rice's injury, Worthy and Justin Watson are the top wide receiver targets. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore could see their roles expand.

Smith-Schuster, who returned to KC this offseason, has only two catches for 17 yards and a touchdown in four games but could be the man to take over Rice's role.

“He's played quite a bit so far and I think he's in good shape. I don’t think that’s a problem,” Reid said. “Pat (Mahomes) has a lot of confidence in him. He’s still a good football player.”

The Chiefs could also designate a player or two from the practice squad to fill the void. Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigio and Montrell Washington are all options.

Questions in the receiver room are sure to lead to trade speculation – the deadline is November 5th. Reid didn't reject the idea of KC adding another receiver.

“It takes a little time to get into it and understand the terminology,” Reid said. “But it’s a lot easier now than it was in training camp when they have to learn tons of plays. Here they only have the game week (plays) to learn.”

“But being on the same page with the quarterback, the timing and all that, that's usually a bigger problem.”

Unless they trade for a big-name wideout – i.e. DeAndre Hopkins or Amari Cooper – the Chiefs will once again rely on the magic of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce as they try to make three-pointers.
