Chris Finch praises one of the Timberwolves' young talents

The Minnesota Timberwolves are preparing for what is sure to be an interesting season. They just completed one of their best years in franchise history in 2023-24 by earning 56 wins and reaching the Western Conference Finals for the second time in franchise history.

The challenge of pursuing a season like this would be quite a challenge. But now they'll try to do it without one of their former franchise cornerstones in Karl-Anthony Towns. KAT was dealt to the New York Knicks in a shocking trade on Friday night and will leave Minnesota for the first time in his NBA career.

Now the Timberwolves will be forced to rely on greater contributions from bench role players. At Minnesota media day on Monday, Chris Finch revealed that Josh Minott is a player who could potentially provide such a performance.

According to St. Paul Pioneer Press Timberwolves reporter Jace Frederick, Finch expressed his excitement while speaking to the media. Frederick reported that Chris said Minott “had an incredible summer” and that he had been one of the best players in the building over the past six weeks.

These are statements that will likely make Timberwolves fans' eyes bulge out of their sockets. Despite being talented and something of a fan favorite, Josh Minott failed to gain much playing time in his first two seasons at the club. Between the 2022-23 season and the 2023-24 season, he averaged just four minutes per night on the court for the NBA squad.

There is no doubt that he has untapped talent, but Finch's statement is significant given the circumstances. “One of the best players on the team” implies that he may have a chance to compete for legitimate minutes this season, but there is still some reasonable doubt that this is actually the case.

Minott will have to overcome many of his teammates this season to actually earn any real playing time. He's probably still pretty low in the pecking order, but maybe that will change if he really grows and develops like Finch suggests here. Timberwolves fans probably still feel like they have to believe it to see it, but the fact that Josh becomes a rotation player could be a game-changer for this team.
