Clouds will remain until the front moves through during the week – Finger Lakes weather

Cloudy weather at the beginning of the week

A mild jet stream pattern combined with the humidity left over from Hurricane Helene will keep our weather consistent for a few more days.

This means that the weather will be more cloudy, but it will also remain mostly calm.

This morning the fog will gradually clear, but there will be plenty of other clouds appearing keeping the sky grey.

A few rain showers cannot be ruled out today. However, these are likely to be rare and individual showers should be short. Most areas are likely to remain dry throughout the day.

Winds will be light from the east at a speed of 5 miles per hour or less.

Afternoon highs will be mild again, with most locations in the low and mid 70s. In some higher elevations, particularly in the western Southern Tier, temperatures may not reach above 70 degrees.

Tonight will remain cloudy with some additional areas of fog possible. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 50s.

Tuesday will be about the same as today, with lots of clouds and just a slight chance of a shower here and there.

However, there is a small chance that there will be a few rays of sunshine in the late afternoon.

Winds will be slightly clearer, blowing from the southeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Mid-70s are likely from the northern tips of the Finger Lakes to Lake Ontario. In the south, temperatures will be primarily in the low 70s, with temperatures at higher elevations in the upper 60s.

A fast front messes everything up

Any cloudbursts late Tuesday will be brief as a cold front approaches from the northwest.

This front will send some showers to the area during the early morning hours on Wednesday. These may last into the morning hours and even midday in some eastern areas.

Rainfall amounts will be minimal, however, and some areas may end up with no more than a few drops and drops.

Behind this front, winds will shift to the northwest on Wednesday afternoon, bringing in some cooler, drier air. Some sunshine will break through in the afternoon across much of the region, but eastern areas may see cloud hold as the front subsides and dissipates.

Wednesday will be cool with highs in the low and mid 60s. On some hills the temperature can be just under 60 degrees.

A light southerly flow will develop on Thursday with lots of sunshine. This will cause temperatures to rise back into the lower and mid 70s.

Friday will be similar to Thursday, just a degree or two warmer.

Another front will move through Friday night or early Saturday. A few showers may be possible, but overall this front looks dry.

Northerly winds will push temperatures back into the high 60s this weekend. Sunday morning can be quite chilly, with lows well into the 40s.

The weather early next week is highly uncertain and a potentially complex pattern is emerging. The range of possibilities offered by the models is too large to make a conclusive statement at this point.
