Darvish gets his fifth MLB postseason win, tying the record by a Japanese pitcher

Japanese pitcher Darvish Yu of the San Diego Padres pitched seven innings and allowed just one run to win Game 2 of the National League Division Series.

It was the fifth MLB postseason win for Darvish and tied the record by a Japanese pitcher held by Tanaka Masahiro, formerly of the New York Yankees.

Darvish accomplished the feat Sunday in Game 2 of the best-of-five series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers won the series opener the day before.

Game 2 featured a showdown between Darvish and Japanese star Ohtani Shohei.

Ohtani, the designated hitter, hit a three-run home run in the previous game, but Darvish knocked him out with a slider in the first inning.

In the third inning, Darvish singled Ohtani again, forcing him to hit a grounder to first out.

With the Padres leading 4-1 in the sixth inning, Darvish retired Ohtani in his third at-bat when he threw a slow curve that took him to the pitcher for a groundout.

Darvish threw a total of 82 pitches in seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The Padres won Game 2 by a score of 10 to 2 and tied the series at one game apiece. It was the 38-year-old Darvish's first postseason win in two years.

Ohtani struck again on his fourth at-bat and finished the game scoreless.
