A suspicious death investigation was conducted Saturday in Easton, New Hampshire, where a woman was found dead in a home there.

Attorney General John M. Formella initially released limited information Saturday, saying only that a suspicious death was being investigated at a home on North Peak Drive and there was no threat to the public.

Formella provided more details later Saturday, identifying the victim as 76-year-old Cynthia Lanchester and announcing that the victim's grandson had been arrested in the case.

Officials say emergency dispatch received a call about a medical emergency at 44 North Peak Drive around 11:41 a.m. State Police responded and found Cynthia Lanchester lying dead on the ground with an apparent blunt trauma injury. State police also encountered her grandson, 23-year-old Joshua Lanchester, who was arrested later Saturday evening.

According to the attorney general, Joshua Lanchester faces a second-degree murder charge for recklessly causing the death of his grandmother with a deadly weapon – a hammer. He is currently being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday in 2nd District Court – District Division in Littleton. It was not immediately clear whether he had hired a lawyer.

An autopsy for Cynthia Lanchester is scheduled for Sunday.

Officials did not give a motive for the fatal hammer attack. Investigations are currently underway.
