Israeli soldiers raid Al Jazeera's offices in Ramallah and order them to close NYT “Connections” October 1: Hints and Answers for Game #478

It may have been ugly, hard to watch, unentertaining and very frustrating, but there are most likely only a handful of games left in the Seattle Mariners' 2024 season.

As for the Seattle Seahawks, they are 3-0 for the first time since 2020. Their 24-3 win over the Miami Dolphins comes with the asterisk that Tua Tagovailoa didn't play, but that's not Seattle's problem. We've seen the Seahawks almost or even lose games like this many times.

To my surprise, Miami's poor performance really upset the masses, despite being the clear underdog and outpacing its starting quarterback (and eventually its backup quarterback), which resulted in a more palatable enemy reaction than I expected. The icing on the cake is the San Francisco 49ers' epic fourth-quarter loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Comments on the Dolphins game thread are courtesy of The Phinsider. We'll keep it light because, well, this wasn't a particularly compelling duel. At my discretion, I left some plays on the cutting room floor because the 49ers will take up more space.

Zach Charbonnet scores the first touchdown (10-0 SEA)

Geno Smith avoids safety but throws an interception to Kader Kohou (10-3 SEA)

Geno immediately redeemed himself with a 71-yard touchdown against DK Metcalf (17-3 SEA)

Derick Hall gets a ridiculous sack against Skylar Thompson to end the first half (17-3 SEA)

Geno Smith was held off by Zach Sieler on the top drill (17-3 SEA)

Tim Boyle throws 4th and the goal incomplete (17-3 SEA)

Zach Charbonnet secures the victory with his second touchdown (24-3 SEA FINAL)

Postgame: Mike McDaniel is not a good head coach (Todd Moser, Dolphins Talk)

I've been trying to warn everyone for a long time that, contrary to popular belief, fan-favorite head coach Mike McDaniel is not a good head coach. He was on the ugly list last week, will be on the list this week and was on the final four ugly lists in the final games of the 2023 season. There are common denominators, which I will summarize later.

But most importantly, here's what irritates me (and should irritate you, too) about today's 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. And forget about quarterback play for a minute. For the third straight time, the Fins trailed by 14 points or more early in the game. This is inexcusable and shows me that the head coach is not properly preparing this team for the game. Second, this team is fundamentally underperforming. Eleven penalties, including countless false starts, illegal formations and holding patterns. That's a broken record. If you can't master simple fundamentals, how can you compete for a playoff spot? I don't know what happens in practice, but I blame the coaching. Last week there were seven flags. The opening week it was nine o'clock. Do I need to say more?

The third thing that bothered me was the offensive game plan, knowing what you had at quarterback. That was a plan as if Tua was going to play. Same old offense. With the offensive line's issues (and injuries) this week, why not throw half the playbook in the trash because Skylar Thompson is not Tua and half of those plays won't work with the skills and decision-making required of the backup QB who has been around no game has started in over a year? And if McDaniel thought about Skylar could If he goes through with the entire script, then that's also on him, because there has been no evidence of that in his three-year tenure.

Hostile Reaction: Detroit Lions

There's not much left to say after that, is there? Even by Niners Nation standards, this is a game for the ages.

Now it's week four, the primetime lights and the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football. Do you want to prove that you are one of the competitors? This is the first test for Mike Macdonald's group, and if history is anything to go by, it will likely be another Seattle-Detroit thriller.

Thanks for reading and say “Hawks!”
