O'NEILL, Neb. (KSNB) – First responders are still on the scene following an apparent explosion that rocked the small community of O'Neill early Monday morning.

The explosion occurred just before 6 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church Parish Center, a two-story dormitory-style building on the northwest corner of the school's campus, near Avera St. Anthony's Hospital.

Video footage shared by KBRX Radio shows firefighters battling 50- to 60-foot flames at the community center.

Amy Weindel of the Archdiocese of Omaha said the center was badly damaged but there was no evidence of foul play. In a statement posted on its Facebook page, St. Patrick's Catholic Church expressed gratitude that no one was in the building at the time of the explosion.

The following video from Nebraska News shows the extent of the damage in daylight.

KBRX Radio also reported that St. Mary's Elementary and High School canceled classes Monday and Avera St. Anthony's Hospital was temporarily closed. A converted emergency room was set up at the O'Neill Community Center and all hospital appointments were canceled.
