ROCHESTER, NY – A yellow alert is in effect for Sunday as a sharp cold front is expected to quickly move across Western New York.

Skies will remain mostly sunny before storms develop after 4 p.m. The biggest dangers include gusty winds and hail. While there is a reduced threat of a weak spin-up tornado, this threat is primarily directed toward areas west and south of Monroe County. If these storms are held until 7:00-8:00 p.m., it will happen after the sun has set, which could be beneficial to us by limiting the energy of these storms. However, expect that some of these storms could become severe. Please download your First Alert Weather app on your mobile device to receive updates on severe weather in the area.

Behind this front, cool temperatures will prevail most of the week, with highs staying mostly in the 50s and 60s. Monday and Tuesday will still be humid, but we'll end the week with sunshine and temperatures climbing back into the lower 70s by the weekend.
