The 49ers fall to 2-3 after blowing a lead and suffering a surprising upset loss to the Cardinals Dak talks about “perseverance and resilience” in the Cowboys’ win over the Steelers

The Los Angeles Lakers' second preseason game of 2024 took place on Sunday evening at Acrisure Arena in the Inland Empire, which also hosted their preseason debut for this year on Friday. They lost their first game there 124-107 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they looked to add to their win list on Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.

Los Angeles gained a decent lead towards the end of the first quarter and extended it to 16 points. But the Suns began to chip away at that lead and ended up winning 118-114.

The Lakers may be 0-2 in the preseason now, but there were a few bright spots on Sunday as these five players performed well.

Anthony Davis

Davis had to sit out Friday's game, but he appeared to be in form and rhythm on Sunday. He scored the Lakers' first basket of the game with an alley-oop dunk off a pass from guard Austin Reaves. He played 18 minutes and was very efficient on offense while doing good work along the boards.

The superstar big shot 7 of 10 from the field for 17 points, and he had eight rebounds and three assists. He also hit a 3-point shot and made three 3-point attempts. Under new head coach JJ Redick, Davis will likely see at least a small increase in his 3-point attempts this season.

LeBron James

Like Davis, James didn't play on Friday, but he appeared to be in mid-season form on Sunday. He played 16 minutes and shot 8 of 12 from the field while going 2 of 3 from 3-point range for a game-high 19 points. He also added five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

As the second quarter began, something happened that many had been looking forward to for a long time. James' son Bronny called into the game and the two were allowed to take the court at the same time in the same game.

Rui Hachimura

In order to have a successful season, Los Angeles will rely on Hachimura being more involved offensively on a regular basis. On Sunday he gave an insight into his skills.

He shot 6 of 8 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and scored 13 points. He also added eight rebounds, one assist and one steal in 22 minutes.

Jaxson Hayes

The Lakers are seriously lacking in frontcourt depth right now. Backups Jarred Vanderbilt and Christian Wood are out with injuries and will be out for at least a few more weeks, so Jaxson Hayes will have to step up.

The backup center played 21 minutes off the bench and collected eight rebounds as well as five points, two assists, two blocked shots and one steal. How many points he scores isn't that important, but the type of performance he had against the Suns in terms of rebounds and blocks will definitely be enough.

Jalen Hood-Schifino

After a miserable rookie season, Hood-Schifino showed some promise on Sunday. In 16 minutes, he shot 4 of 7 from the field and had three rebounds and three assists. He was also involved in the Lakers' attempt to win the game in crunch time, scoring three baskets and providing an assist in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter.
