Former New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers, who currently plays for the New England Patriots, was arrested Saturday after his girlfriend made disturbing allegations.

NFL Media reports that Peppers has been charged with a number of crimes, including cocaine possession and strangulation, among others.

Police said in a statement Monday that they responded to a disturbance at a residential address early Oct. 5, where the caller reported an altercation between two people. Peppers was arrested following a subsequent investigation. The victim of the alleged altercation was treated at the scene by emergency services.

Peppers is charged with assault and battery; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; Strangulation; and possession of a Class “B” substance, suspected to be cocaine, police said.

Peppers was arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court and pleaded not guilty. His next court date is Tuesday, November 22nd.

The Patriots were made aware of the situation before it hit the newspapers and subsequently contacted the NFL to inform them of the situation.

“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend which police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the Patriots said in a statement.

Peppers denies any wrongdoing and told police that the drunk woman injured herself when she fell down the stairs, making the claim because he “refused to have unprotected sex with her,” the New York Post reports.

“According to Jabrill,” the police report states, “(the woman) continued to behave erratically and refused to leave.” According to Jabrill, (the woman) fell on the stairs alone because she was drunk. He denied pushing her down the stairs and said she made the allegations to destroy his career.”

Police also said they found a bag of white powder believed to be cocaine in his wallet.

As he left court Monday, Peppers told reporters in attendance that he had evidence that would prove the allegations were false. He suggested that there was video evidence and additional evidence that would exonerate him.

The 29-year-old New Jersey native spent three seasons with the Giants from 2019 to 2021. He spent the last two years with the Patriots, where he serves as defensive captain.
