PORTLAND (WGME) – Former President Donald Trump repeatedly referred to Gov. Janet Mills as “he” in a phone call with supporters Monday night.

Trump referred to Mills as “he” or “him” at least six times in that call and also made false statements.

Our media partners at the Bangor Daily News have obtained an audio recording.

In his call to supporters Monday night, Trump apparently referenced a plan announced by Mills in 2019 to expand Maine's workforce by 75,000 people over 10 years, including by training the immigrants they need to enter the state enter the world of work.

Trump claimed Mills wanted to bring 75,000 migrants to Maine.

“Your radical left governor has announced a plan to relocate 75,000 migrants, many of whom will be murderers, gang members and, uh, terrorists, frankly, and whatever is going on with him, radical left governor,” Trump said . “He wants to resettle 75,000 migrants to Maine just because they told him to do that, and he says, 'Yes, sir.'”

To be clear, Mills did announce a goal of expanding the workforce by 75,000 people, but that was part of a 10-year plan announced in 2019, when Trump was still in office.

The plan included dozens of recommendations to achieve this.

Then came its own initiative to integrate immigrants.

CBS13 has reached out to the governor's office for comment. They sent us a tweet from Mills.

We have also reached out to the Trump campaign and are awaiting a response.

Trump also said of Mills: “You better get rid of him in the near future.”

Mills is in her second term, which ends in two years.
