Nearly five years after Harmony Montgomery's death, her mother and a group of volunteers joined forces Monday to search for her body in Massachusetts, according to multiple reports.

Crystal Sorey and other searchers went to Mary O'Malley Park in Chelsea, WCVB-TV reported. According to prosecutors, the search was conducted in the area where the girl's father, Adam Montgomery, was driving a U-Haul to dispose of Harmony Montgomery's body in March 2020.

Sorey organized search parties within a 23-mile radius of Adam Montgomery's location, she told NBC 10 Boston.

“It's hard for me to sleep at night knowing she's out here, and it's hard for me to move on,” Sorey told NBC. “She would be 10. Ten years old now. It’s been five years too long.”

She wishes she could talk to Adam Montgomery about where her daughter is, Sorey told WCVB.

“He still has every last ounce of control over Harmony, and I want to cause myself more pain because he hates me so much that he would tell me where she is,” she said.

She hopes that the girl's remains will be found during these searches. Another is planned for October, she told WCVB.

“The anguish that this child has lived with and the pain is unbearable,” Tara Rondeau of Worcester told both television stations. Rondeau was one of the volunteers at Sorey.

Harmony Montgomery looked “a lot like my daughter when she was that age,” Rondeau told NBC. “My daughter wore glasses and was very small and petite. When I look at her, all I can think about is my own daughter.” ”

Adam Montgomery was sentenced to 56 years in prison in May after being found guilty of beating Harmony Montgomery to death in December 2019. Earlier this year, Adam Montgomery was awarded custody of Harmony Montgomery. Her body was never found.

Sorey filed a lawsuit against the New Hampshire Department of Children, Youth and Families that blames her for ignoring multiple warnings, including reports from family members and neighbors, about her daughter's well-being and failing to protect her.
