Brad Marchand debuts vs. Flyers Good Times and Roots star John Amos dies aged 84

Shots were fired in the parking lot of Pleasure Ridge Park High School during Sunday night's football game with Male High School.

There are two victims with gunshot wounds. Louisville Metro Police discovered a young man in high school. He was taken to University of Louisville Hospital and is in critical condition.

According to LMPD spokesman John Bradley, a second victim was taken to Mary and Elizabeth Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is investigating the severity of the first victim's injuries. At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, investigators followed up on leads but had no suspects. LMPD encourages residents to review home surveillance footage for any suspicious activity. Police believe the people involved in the shooting fled to an adjacent neighborhood.

Principals from both high schools sent a joint email to parents Sunday evening, writing that after the shooting, “many fans went under the stands while players were escorted to the locker room for their safety.”

“We heard gunshots and everyone started running,” said Judy Roberts, the PRP cheerleading coach.

Roberts said her cheerleaders are all scattered in different locations.

“We do not tolerate violence of any kind,” the email from Jefferson County Public Schools said. “As a community, we must work together to support each other. If your student would like to speak to someone about what happened, our counseling and mental health teams are always available.”

The shooting incident occurred at the same time as two players were injured during the game.

“We actually had two players on the field at the same time who were injured at the time of the shooting. I'm on the field because one of them was my boys, an offensive lineman,” Isaac Sowells, an assistant coach on the Male football team and father of Isaac Sowells Jr., a male offensive lineman, said.

Sowells was in the hospital waiting for an update on his player's injury while speaking to the Courier Journal. The other injured player was from Pleasure Ridge Park. According to Sowells, they brought an AED (automated external defibrillator) onto the field because this player's heartbeat stopped.

Sowells said both players were on the ground for about three to five minutes before the shooting occurred. According to his understanding, the shooting occurred closer to the school building and not on the field.

WAVE sports anchor Dusty Baker, also at the scene, said there were about two minutes left in the game when the loud bangs were heard. The game was stopped and people were ordered to leave the premises, the JCPS email said.

LMPD encourages any resident to provide information by calling 574-LMPD.

Pleasure Ridge Park was scheduled to play Male on Friday, but the game was postponed due to weather.
