Buckeye will host its first-ever Buckeye Night Market on October 4th from 6 to 9 p.m

Melissa Calles, photographer and co-owner of West Streets Studio, came up with the idea of using the night market to create a kind of First Fridays for West Valley residents. At the same time, it would help revitalize the city center and local businesses.

While the market was previously scheduled to take place in the Adelante Healthcare Clinic parking lot near the West Streets Studio, Calles suddenly had to move out of the studio due to a change in ownership of the building. It made more sense to move the market to the more central Sixth Street Plaza, where many events take place in the City of Buckeye.

West Streets Studio is now located in downtown Glendale. But Calles, a Buckeye resident, remains passionate about helping the downtown area and is open to eventually opening another studio downtown.

The Buckeye Night Market takes place the first Friday of every month through April from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sixth Street Plaza in downtown Buckeye. The event is pet friendly.

Although no alcohol will be sold this month, Calles said that is a goal for the coming months. But there will be plenty of food from local vendors, plus shopping, face painting, photography, a psychic and a performance by the Tradiciones Dance Company.

There will be around 25 vendors on the market, including:

  • Yogi bites
  • Tassels Poms & Love LLC
  • Vero's treasures
  • Studio unfiltered
  • Desert halos
  • Wild Ryde soaps
  • The Makery LLC
  • The Olive Tree People
  • Crest coffee roaster
  • Frios Gourmet Pops
  • ToBeYou Boutique
  • Simply sewn
  • Flavor of life
  • Kokopelli Candy Co
  • Daleyza creations
  • Pampered chef
  • Tacos Barbon
  • Soul salvation
  • Green Irish moon
  • Mercadito
  • Barranqueno
  • Happy Sage and Artesanía
  • Lola's locker
  • Carranza Honey Farms
  • Mando's Equipment Shop
  • Misskiki makeup
  • Buckeye Psychic

There will also be information booths from the Arizona Army National Guard, Complete Pet Animal Hospital, Girasol, Therapy with Purpose and Zona Handyman Services. Confetti Party AZ provides a backdrop for pictures.

The event is sponsored by Chevy's Appliances, Arizona Water Company, West Streets Studio and Calles' podcast “Who Gave this Girl a Mic?” Chevy's Appliances also donated a washer and dryer that will be raffled off at the market.

Calles' busy weekend doesn't end there: She and Morgan West, co-owner of West Streets Studio, will host a grand opening for the studio's Glendale location on Sunday. It is open to the public and features food, imagery and pop-up vendors.

The studio is located at 7157 N. 59th Ave. in Glendale. The grand opening will take place on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
