New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested Saturday morning on assault and cocaine possession charges, Braintree (Mass.) police confirmed to NFL.com.

Police said in a statement Monday that they responded to a disturbance at a residential address early Oct. 5, where the caller reported an altercation between two people. Peppers was arrested following a subsequent investigation. The victim of the alleged altercation was treated at the scene by emergency services.

Peppers is charged with assault and battery; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; Strangulation; and possession of a Class “B” substance, suspected to be cocaine, police said.

The Patriots defenseman is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday.

Peppers, who turned 29 on Friday, did not play in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins as he struggled with a shoulder injury. After initially being listed as questionable, he was demoted on Saturday and will not be available for New England's Week 5 game.

“He called me that morning. I knew what was going on,” Patriots coach Jerod Mayo told reporters Monday morning. “We notified the NFL of what was going on and we are still gathering information.”

The Patriots said in a statement: “We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend that police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time.”

The eighth-year defensive back is in his third season in New England. In four games in 2024, Peppers has recorded 23 tackles, two passes defended and one interception.
