Jax Taylor claims he never actually married Brittany

The Vanderpump Rules couple, who tied the knot in 2019, shocked fans this year by announcing their split. According to new court documents obtained by Page Six, Jax Taylor stated in his petition to dissolve their marriage that he and 35-year-old Brittany Cartwright were never legally married.

Despite the lavish televised wedding, the legal formalities appear to have failed. Taylor personally filed the documents in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County this September.

After nearly five years together, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright had been dealing with a tumultuous relationship for some time. Last month, Jax sought psychiatric treatment and later revealed that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD. Although the couple welcomed their son two years after marriage, they are now focusing on co-parenting. In newly filed court documents, Jax has even agreed to give Brittany sole custody of their child.

Earlier on Tuesday, Brittany revealed in a conversation with E! They even gave an update about their relationship post-split and how they divide their time with their child. “We’re fine,” she told the outlet. “It is what it is. …Obviously we're both going to put (Cruz) first. It will definitely be good because we both love him so much.

“Even if Jax and I fight, there will never be a fight between Cruz,” she added. “It will never amount to anything.”

In February 2024, Brittany let everyone know that she was breaking up with Jax. She divorced in August, seven months after the separation. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation.

“Many of you have asked me about Jax and I and our relationship,” Cartwright said at the time. “I just think it's important to be honest and honest with you guys because our lives are definitely – we've shared so much of our lives with you guys. So I feel like I don't want to give the impression that I'm lying or anything, so I think it's important that I say that.”

“Marriages in general are very hard and I had a particularly hard year last year. “Jax and I are taking some time off and I've made the decision to move to another home to make some space for my mental health,” she added.
