Wide receiver Kaleb Brown's 2024 college football season has come to an end. And it's unlikely that the Ohio State transfer will negatively impact the Iowa program again.

Brown said on Instagram Monday that he will be redshirting this season. Brown had appeared in three games for the Hawkeyes and played just 19 snaps, catching one pass for 18 yards against Troy. Under NCAA rules, a player can play in four or fewer regular-season games and retain eligibility for that year. Brown is a third-year junior and played in five games as a freshman at Ohio State, then caught 22 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown for the Hawkeyes in 2023.

He wrote at 8:57 a.m. Monday: “I have decided to take advantage of my redshirt year and will not play in any more games this season. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program.” He is not expected to continue contributing to the team and will be able to enter the transfer portal as a student starting December 9th.

Brown's arrival from Ohio State in May 2023 was a celebrated acquisition for a program that lacked star power at receiver. He immediately became the highest-rated wide receiver recruit of the Kirk Ferentz era and was a top-100 prospect in the 2022 class.

However, this turned into a tumultuous offseason for Brown, who was arrested in June for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) and possessing a fake ID. Because of this indiscretion, Brown was suspended for one game. He played 11 snaps against Iowa State, seven against Troy and one against Minnesota, a failed third-down pass in which he misran a downfield route. This will be his final snap of the 2024 season.

Brown, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound Chicago native, was unable to make the trip to Ohio State last weekend after suffering what Ferentz called a soft tissue injury during practice on Wednesday.

Ferentz will address the Iowa media on Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. and will certainly be asked about Brown's future with the program. He was still on the Hawkeye football roster as of Monday morning, but the situation is uncertain.

Iowa (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten Conference) hosts Washington (4-2, 2-1) on Saturday (11 a.m. CT, FOX).
