It may just be a preseason game, but LeBron James will never forget sharing the same court with his son Bronny James as Los Angeles Lakers teammates for the first time on Sunday night.

LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game when they took the court in the first half against the Phoenix Suns. They played together for about four minutes in the second quarter.

LeBron, who was an efficient 8 of 12 from the field, including 2 of 3 from three-point land, discussed for 19 points what it was like to have his son by his side on the hardwood for the first time in a game.

“It’s pretty cool for both of us and especially for our family,” LeBron said. “It’s definitely a moment I’ll never forget.”

LeBron always wanted to play with Bronny since his son was still a high school prospect and hadn't yet committed to play at USC. And everyone knew that meant that LeBron would have to play well over 20 years in the NBA to achieve that, based on the current steps prospects have to take before becoming eligible for the NBA Draft.

Heading into his 22nd year in the organization, LeBron remains in top form and he's seeing that milestone ticked off.

LAKERS' LEBRON JAMES SAYS HE EXPERIENCED 'PURE JOY' IN TRAINING WITH SON BRONNY DURING TRAINING CAMP TIP

“It means everything to a father,” he said. “For someone who didn't have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on his children and his son, to have moments with his son – and the last thing, to be able to work with him.” Son – that's one of the biggest Things a father could ever hope for or wish for.”

It was an eventful evening for Bronny, who experienced his first game action as an NBA player. During his 13:25 minutes on the court, he had just one shot, one missed three-pointer, and two defensive rebounds. He also had two turnovers.

He also celebrated his 20th birthday on Sunday, which only makes this milestone even bigger.

NBA fans are excited to see when it will be officially announced that the father-son duo will become the first couple ever to play in a regular season game. After the Lakers drafted Bronny in the second round, it was reported earlier this year that he would play with Los Angeles to reach the milestone before being sent to the G-League South Bay Lakers for further development.

Meanwhile, Bronny is still trying to build a working relationship with his father.

“I always think, 'That's my father!' because that’s literally my dad,” he said. “But when I play, he’s just my teammate. That’s all.”

New head coach JJ Redick is also navigating this pairing as he finds his way into his first role.

“I’m really excited to be a part of this,” Redick said. “As a basketball fan, it’s cool. I think it speaks to LeBron's longevity, but also his competitiveness, that he can still do this in his 22nd year. It speaks to the work that Bronny has put in to get to this point and “Really just the fatherly care and certainly the motherly care from Savannah, he's such a great boy and a joy to be with.” to be.

Redick added that their connection on the field won't be a “gimmick” as he wants to involve them in a natural flow of the game.

While this hasn't happened in the NBA, father-son duos have been on the same field together in other professional sports, including MLB, where Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. played together on the Seattle Mariners.

It's history in the making, and while LeBron is definitely still interested in winning championships, he knows how special this moment is for him not only as a player, but also as a father.
