LeBron James remembers Pacers G Tyrese Haliburton calling him “Grandpa” while on Team USA

Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton spent his summer with LeBron James on Team USA, and during that time there were apparently many moments where Haliburton gave James a hard time because he was older.

The Pacers star is just 24 years old, while James turns 40 in December. They are far apart in age but are both great basketball players at the moment. Both were All-Stars and All-NBA talents last season before overlapping with the Red, White and Blue.

During the Los Angeles Lakers' media day, James shared on Spectrum Sportsnet that Haliburton has made many comments about his age this summer. “Ant-Man (Anthony Edwards) definitely. Tyrese Haliburton, those guys, followed me all summer. They call me old head and grandpa and things like that,” James shared with a smile. The Lakers' star forward said his gray hair fell out in Paris.

“The young guys on the Olympic team, they gave it to me,” James continued. “It was all fun. It's great to be around young people. They gave me the energy, I tried to give it back to them.”

Haliburton, James and Co. won the gold medal, a huge moment for Haliburton's career. The Pacers guard played the fewest minutes and games of any player on the team during the Olympics, but he still loved the experience and has a lot to take from it with him into the NBA.

Micah Potter, who spent much of the summer with Team USA, recalled a moment when Haliburton's shooting technique surpassed James in a shooting drill during a U.S. practice. When the Olympics were over, Haliburton shared pictures from his childhood of him wearing James' Team USA jersey, and the Lakers star responded to those photos.

“The game is in great hands,” James said of Haliburton

The two seem to have developed something of a relationship during the Olympics, and now Haliburton will look to emulate some of his idol's habits as his career progresses.
