New Israeli air strikes hit Beirut's southern suburbs on Saturday, the scene of daily attacks over the past week.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah has lost contact with a possible successor to its late leader Hassan Nasrallah, according to a Lebanese security source.

And a leader of Hamas's military wing in Lebanon was killed in a rare Israeli airstrike near Lebanon's northernmost city, Tripoli.

Here's what you need to know:

New airstrikes: Israel has carried out attacks on Beirut's southern suburbs, firing several rockets at an area near the airport. This residential area, a seat of power for Hezbollah, was where Israel focused many of its attacks during its escalating war with the Iran-backed paramilitary group. Israel's extensive bombing has killed more than 1,400 people and sparked a deepening humanitarian crisis, according to the Lebanese government. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, Hezbollah returned fire across the border, firing about 130 projectiles into Israeli territory on Saturday.

Lost contact with key Hezbollah leader: The group has not heard from Hashem Safieddine since an Israeli attack targeted him in Beirut on Friday, the Lebanese security source told CNN on Saturday. After Nasrallah's assassination, Safieddine is considered one of the most likely heirs to the organization's highest seat.

Hamas leader killed in north: Hamas confirmed the death of Atallah Ali, whom it described as the leader of the Lebanese branch of its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. Lebanon's second-largest city, Tripoli, is believed not to have been targeted since the 2006 conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

Rallies around the globe: Thousands of people gathered Saturday in support of Palestinians ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks and subsequent war in Gaza. Marches took place in Paris, Manila, Cape Town and other major cities. In Rome, police fired tear gas at an unsanctioned pro-Palestinian protest involving about 5,000 people after demonstrators began throwing objects at authorities.

Ground operations: According to the IDF spokesman, Israeli forces have so far destroyed more than 2,000 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon – including weapons, military buildings and underground infrastructure. Israeli authorities said Saturday they were responding to multiple reports of direct attacks on homes and falling debris in northern Israel after Hezbollah fired a barrage of rockets.

Almost a year of war: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says almost a year after the October 7 attacks, his country is now fighting on seven fronts. Israel continues its war against Hamas in Gaza, even as attention is focused on the bombing of Lebanon. Israeli airstrikes hit the northern and central Gaza Strip after dark on Saturday, reportedly killing several people. The Israeli military said it had targeted Hamas militants in the enclave, where tens of thousands of Palestinians, including thousands of children, were killed. Hamas, like Hezbollah, is backed by Iran, and Israel's dual conflicts with the groups have heightened fears of a larger regional war.
