4th quarter

9:25: Both teams have their backup quarterbacks in place as we play out the series in this game. Neither can get much going as we trade punts and play the strings in this one. Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7

2:45 p.m.: After completing three drives of 50 or more yards in the first half, the Spartans had just one first down in the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter with a punt. There still seems to be as much red as green at Spartan Stadium. Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7

3rd quarter

2:05: Will Howard scores a touchdown three plays after Aidan Chiles' interception. This result seems to be spiraling out of control, but Michigan State didn't look as outclassed in this matchup as it has in recent years. The story tonight was more about the three turnovers. Ohio State 38, Michigan State 7

3:24: Aidan Chiles makes his first big mistake of the game. He rolls to his left, tries to make something happen under pressure and throws straight to Denzel Burke. The Buckeyes will take over inside the Spartans' 10-yard line. Ohio State 31, Michigan State 7

4:57: Brutal end to a drive for Michigan State. The Spartans forced Ohio State into fourth downs twice, but gave up a 33-yard touchdown pass to Emeka Egbuka on the second. Here the horse chestnuts begin to retreat. Ohio State 31, Michigan State 7

12:08: Michigan State gets a first down, but then falters and punts on its first offensive attack of the second half. Aidan Chiles appeared to throw a third-and-14 interception when he threw up a screen pass, but the play was ruled an incomplete pass. Ohio State 24, Michigan State 7

2nd quarter

0:29: Jordan Turner knocked Will Howard out of the game with a hit to the ribs for a play, but backup Devin Brown came in and threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to the Buckeyes' star rookie Jeremiah Smith, who then made two one-handed catches drive. Ohio State 24, Michigan State 7

1:13: Michigan State's offense went three-and-out for the first time today and Ryan Day used his timeouts to give his offense time for one final shot. Bad timing for a Ryan Eckley punt that gave Ohio State just 60 yards from a touchdown. Ohio State 17, Michigan State 7

1:48: Michigan State appeared to force a fumble deep in Ohio State territory, but the call is overturned on replay (giving fans here more reason to boo). But the Spartans defense still forced a three-and-out and our first punt of the day. Michigan State will have another chance on offense here. Ohio State 17, Michigan State 7

3:03: Aidan Chiles had an outstanding drive before ending it with a fumble recovered by Ohio State at OSU's 15-yard line (replay showed the refs missed a pretty obvious facemask just before the fumble). Chiles had completed two long passes, one on third-and-10 at the Spartans' own 25-yard line, to bring his team close to making it a one-point game. He is 9-for-11 passing for 143 yards with one touchdown. Ohio State 17, Michigan State 7

7:22: Ohio State starts its ground game with three consecutive runs of 37, 9 and 19 yards to march into the Michigan State end zone. The Spartans lost defensive lineman Maverick Hansen early in that drive, which contributed to the run-blocking issues. Ohio State 17, Michigan State 7

9:41: The Spartans move quickly as Aidan Chiles makes a pass to Jaron Glover and he rushes over the pylon to bring the Spartans up the field. Ohio State 10, Michigan State 7

9:48: Huge game for Michigan State's defense. Jordan Turner steps in front of a Will Howard pass and returns it to the OSU 12. The Spartans answer the OSU takeaway with one of their own and are back where they were. Ohio State 10, Michigan State 0

11:20: Michigan State keeps making mistakes that it can't afford to make against a team of this caliber. After the offense ran down the field on its second possession, Jack Velling had a big lead over the middle, but the ball was stripped away from him as he hit the ground. This came after the MSU defense missed an interception on the final drive. Ohio State 10, Michigan State 0

2:09 p.m.: Michigan State's defense performed better against Ohio State than in recent years, but couldn't get off the field on third down. Will Howard completed three third-down passes on this extended Buckeyes drive, then the Buckeyes scored on 4th-and-goal from the 3-yard line. Malik Spencer missed a perfect chance for an interception earlier in the game. Ohio State 10, Michigan State 0

1st quarter

5:14: A nice opening drive brings no points for the Spartans. Michigan State gained 55 yards thanks to a 19-yard first rush from Nate Carter and 27 passing yards from Aidan Chiles. But Jonathan Smith makes it to 4th-and-1 at the OSU 20 and gets stuffed. Ohio State 3, Michigan State 0

9:15: The Buckeyes gained 63 yards in 11 plays and settled for a field goal, thanks in large part to a late personal foul penalty that put them 15 yards back in the red zone. Will Howard went 7-for-7 as OSU tried to take advantage of his speed at the rim. This is the first time since 2019 that Michigan State held OSU to less than a touchdown on its first drive of the game. Ohio State 3, Michigan State 0

Foreplay: Michigan State is getting at least some help at wide receiver and possibly a lot more. Jaron Glover officially returns to the field tonight and Nick Marsh is a game-changing decision. He warms up on the field.

Tight end Michael Masunas is among the new players out. DL Ade Willie is also out.
