Tottenham overwhelmed Manchester United for a fourth straight win in all competitions and produced a complete performance – their best since the exciting first months of Ange Postecoglou's reign.

Just two weeks ago Spurs needed a late comeback to beat Coventry City in the Carabao Cup when the first serious questions were asked about Postecoglou, but this exciting performance and the way a team they see as rivals when it was comprehensively dismantled, it provided a convincing answer.

The Spurs showed quality, running performance and power from the first whistle. The hard-to-please Postecoglou often held his head in his hands in pain or threw his hands in the air in frustration as they easily put United ahead, only to somehow fail to build on Johnson's early goal.

The fear was clear that Spurs' lack of income had left the door open for United. Postecoglou needn't have worried.

Fernandes' red card helped their cause, but they had United where they wanted them long before that and when Kulusevski added a second card the deal was sealed and Solanke's third card provided the finishing touch.

Johnson's early goal was understandably greeted with enthusiasm by his father David, who began his career at Manchester United and watched from the director's box. It was another strong reaction from a player angered by recent harsh criticism from Spurs fans.

He scored for the fourth game in a row and provided Kulusevski's second goal. He played a key role as Spurs threatened to fall into turmoil.

United had rare moments in the second half but this was Spurs' day and they fully deserved the standing ovation they received from their adoring fans after the final whistle.
