LILLE, France (AP) — Ethan Mbappe's dream of facing his famous brother in the Champions League will have to wait.

Lille coach Bruno Genesio confirmed on Tuesday that Kylian's younger brother Ethan will not be fit to play against Real Madrid when the two teams meet in the new-look Champions League on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old midfielder has a quadriceps injury that will keep him out for several weeks.

“It was a special game for him. I don’t think there are many brothers who have played against each other in the Champions League,” said Genesio.

“I haven't seen him since his injury and I don't want to talk to him right away because I know what condition he can be in,” the coach added. “I will see him after the game because I know it will be very hard emotionally for him and his family. But he is a young player who is making progress and who, I'm sure, will have other opportunities to experience something like this again.

Kylian was included in the Madrid team traveling to France despite a hamstring injury.

Both Mbappe brothers left Paris Saint-Germain this summer. While Kylian crossed the border to join the Spanish league, Ethan stayed in France and signed a three-year contract with Lille.

“My dream of meeting my brother in the Champions League may be fading but not going away,” Ethan Mbappe said in an Instagram post.
