For nearly a decade, McDonald's fans have been begging the fast food chain for one thing, and one thing only: the McRib.

The burger – made with pork, barbecue sauce, cucumber and onions – has been a sought-after item on the Maccies menu since it was introduced in 1981.

Its cult status may have something to do with the fact that it is rarely available in the UK. Customers in the UK haven't been able to get their hands on one since 2015, but that's about to change.

Maccies is finally giving the people what they want and bringing back the “iconic” menu item. But there's a catch, and a pretty big one.

When will the McRib be available again at McDonalds?

The McRib is returning to restaurants Wednesday, October 16th But you can only get your hands on it for a limited time, and once it sells out, it's over. No more McRibs.

So if you've been waiting with bated breath for its comeback, you'll want to head to McDonald's as soon as possible on the big day.

To put this in context, the last “limited time” item the chain released was the “infamous” Grimace Shake, which sold out in just two days. Therefore, many missed the opportunity to try the popular drink.

But back to the McRib. I managed to get a little taste of it before its triumphant return to see if it was really worth the wait.

What did Metro's food expert think of the McRib?

I'll be honest, I don't fully understand the hype surrounding this book. I know there aren't many pork dishes on the McDonald's menu, so there's definitely a novelty aspect, but the chain has offered plenty of grilled items over the years, none of which have achieved the same dizzying fame as the McRib.

It's not the most exciting burger McDonald's has ever made (personally, I would have preferred if the summer 2022 lasagna burger had made a comeback), but it's also not the worst burger the chain has ever sold. .. (here's looking at you) Hot Cross Bun Pie).

I like the simplicity of it. There's no whole salad in there or anything that feels overly unnecessary. All ingredients complement each other very well.

The pork patty is on the thin side, but there's plenty of smoky barbecue sauce and everything is served in a sub, meaning you feel like you're getting more bang for your buck than your average burger. The price isn't bad for 2024 either. (The McRib costs £4.49 on its own or £6.19 as part of a medium meal).

I'm not a huge fan of onions, but even I can admit that they add to the overall flavor and provide a sharp, savory bite that balances the sweetness of the sauce. The only thing I might change would be to add a few more cucumbers as I love a good cucumber.

Would I order one again? I'm not sure I'll get the chance (I'll give it 24 hours before it sells out), but I'm definitely glad I tried one, if only to avoid the fast food A better way to understand the phenomenon is the McRib.

The McRib

Thomas O'Neill, head of menu at McDonald's UK, added: “It's more than just a sandwich; It's a phenomenon. We heard our fans loud and clear – the petitions and requests from fans on social media – and are excited to bring back this iconic menu item after nearly a decade of anticipation.

“Knowing how popular the McRib is, we had no choice – we had to make it.” It was time to satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country.”

This comes after McDonald's recently announced it would be adding a new item to its breakfast menu starting Oct. 16 that is a twist on a “God Tier” favorite.

And Metro also recently rated all the burgers on the UK menu.

The humble cheeseburger came out on top, because sometimes less is more. Closely followed by the Quarter Pounder and of course the Big Mac.

The McChicken didn't fare too well, nor did the vegetarian dishes on the menu. And we just don't talk about the hamburger…
