MIAMI GARDENS – When Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell watched Tyler “Snoop” Huntley’s film, he was struck by what he saw of Snoop’s death.

“I think some of the things he can do as a passer have been a little underrated,” Bevell said Friday. “Because I think people talk all the time about the things he can do with his legs. And you know, that’s exciting, but I was really excited about what he could do as a pitcher.”

Huntley, a 26-year-old from Dania Beach, could start for the Dolphins on “Monday Night Football” against the Tennessee Titans.

Huntley had a 3-6 record as a starter for the Ravens, but posted a solid 64.6 completion percentage. He just arrived in Miami 10 days ago.

“I was excited about Snoop and the fact that he came here, just because of the process that he went through,” Bevell said. “I mean, it's not an easy task to learn an offense that's really that detailed. Plays are plays, but there's the way you call them and the things we do. He really dug in and just sunk his teeth into it and it worked. “It's really hard to get the knowledge that he needs to be able to go out on the field.

Huntley could start because Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on injured reserve, Skylar Thompson has a rib injury and Tim Boyle didn't lead a touchdown drive in relief in Seattle.

Miami Dolphins news: Tyler “Snoop” Huntley could start

It's possible Huntley could add a spark to an offense that hasn't scored a touchdown in seven quarters.

It's also obvious that Miami would need to optimize its offense for Huntley. In particular, we were able to observe some zone readings, sprint outs or draws.

Without a doubt it would be a simplified game plan.

“Well, the good thing is that the schedules, we're in schedule weeks, you know, it's different than training camp because in training camp you just throw everything at them, you have the whole encyclopedia,” Bevell said . “Especially during a game week they only have a more limited number of plays to fall back on and while it's still big, it's definitely limited. This allows you to focus a little more on the details and the things you need to make those specific plays rather than teaching concepts and large parts of your offense.”

Dolphins vs. Titans news: What Tyler Huntley is focused on

Bevell noted that the timing and footwork in the Dolphins' offense differed from the footwork and timing Huntley used in Baltimore.

“So we have a timing offense with applications,” Bevell said. “So that’s one of the things you have to prepare for. I think the footwork is very crucial.”

Bevell noted that head coach Mike McDaniel often sits down with his starting quarterback at the end of the week to go over a few of the plays he likes best.

“I've had these experiences before where the coach could say, 'That's a great play,'” Bevell said. “And the quarterback says, 'I don't know.' And you say, “No, it's a great piece.” And you name it, and it doesn't work very well. And with quarterbacks you can do the exact opposite. And the coach says, “There's no way this game is going to work.” The quarterback has a feel for it and these are the plays that work. That's why I think it's important to listen to these guys.
