EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's basketball is preparing to travel to Northern Michigan to face coach Tom Izzo's alma mater.

It will be a very special trip for Izzo. Not only will he share the place where he grew up with his team, but the Wildcats will also retire his jersey.

Izzo spoke about the upcoming friendly match in his speech to the media on Tuesday.

Below is a partial transcript of Izzo's opening statement:

Izzo: “It's a great week for us. It starts tonight, with the Pistons and Suns here and two players from Michigan State being owners. And I see it a little differently. The way I look at it is, I think we were. “A finalist for (Devin) Booker and (Tyus) Jones, so I don't know if I'll give those two guys cold showers, but it was great and I'm really excited To see them rock the Tigers playoff game tomorrow, the states. And then we'll go all the way up there and eat some pies and play up there. I think it's going to be an incredible week. Since there's no football game here, as we know with Boston College, the one thing that's really been important to me throughout my career is to try to take our players to that Tigers game so they can see the game… It “So it’s going to be an exciting time for all of us.”
