The transition from Jim Harbaugh to Sherrone Moore was always going to be difficult for the Michigan football program. But Moore's first year, while still very positive so far, has been an even bigger struggle due to the team's quarterback issues.

While it looked like Alex Orji's run-first approach might be working after a hard-fought win over USC last week, the junior quarterback threw more but not much yesterday as he nearly collapsed against Minnesota. Orji hit 10 of 18 and threw for 86 yards, a touchdown and a momentum-changing interception that sparked a 21-3 Gophers run.

Now that Orji has two weeks of action as the starter, many, including The Athletic's Austin Meek, think Moore may need to make another change at quarterback.

“When Michigan traded from Davis Warren to Orji, Moore made it clear that he did not want to be a flip-flopping quarterback for the remainder of the season,” Meek wrote. “The hope was that Orji would take the job and get on with it. Michigan is 2-0 since then, but the offense has been stagnant except for (running back Kalel) Mullings, who had another productive game with 111 yards on 24 carries.

“It’s time for Michigan to consider adding another quarterback. Jack Tuttle was not listed on the injury report this week, which presumably means he was ready to play. If Tuttle is healthy, a trade with Orji could give Michigan other options to extend assignments if the running game isn't working.”

Michigan is still looking for a solid starting quarterback
