Jordan Mason on historic 49ers stretch, passing 23rd Christian McCaffrey – NBC Sports Bay Area & California Game #1 Preview: One more start

It's the final four-game day of the MLB postseason, and with two deciding games in Game 3 in the American League and two elimination games in Game 4 in the National League, the stakes couldn't be higher.

In the ALDS, the Detroit Tigers host the Cleveland Guardians in the first game. This series is tied 1-1, with Detroit earning a 3-0 win in Game 2 behind excellent play from Tarik Skubal. He went seven innings and allowed just three hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts, while Kerry Carpenter hit a three-run pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth inning that tied the score. On Wednesday, Alex Cobb will play for Cleveland against Keider Montero for Detroit.

In Kansas City, the Royals host the Yankees in Game 3. KC won Game 2 4-2 and secured home field advantage in the series. Maikel Garcia had four hits and Salvador Perez hit a home run in the win. The Yankees send Clark Schmidt to the mound for the Royals against Seth Lugo.

Over in the Netherlands, the Phillies have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Mets. The pitching match pits Ranger Suarez for Philadelphia and Jose Quintana for New York. Quintana allowed no runs in six innings in a wild-card start against the Brewers. He made three starts against the Phillies in the regular season and held Phillies hitters to a .224/.274/.259 slash line in three Mets wins.

Finally, in the nightcap, the Padres can eliminate the Dodgers with a win in San Diego. The intense rivalry has led to fans throwing things at players and Manny Machado drawing the ire of Dave Roberts. The Padres are sending Dylan Cease to the mound, while the Dodgers have yet to announce a starter.
