Buckley forced Thompson onto his heels from the start while applying crushing pressure.

In the third verse, as “Wonderboy” stepped back, Buckley uncorked a vicious diving right hook that left his opponent against the fence.

It was a shot that even the great Mike Tyson would have been proud of – and comparisons between the two were rife on social media following the brutal stoppage.

One fan tweeted: “Wow, Buckley kos Wonderboy with a jumping hook. Shadow of Mike Tyson.”

Another wrote: “I've been saying since he fought Holland – Buckley reminds me of Mike Tyson with his boxing, I love his weaving in and out.”

A third posted: “What a knockout from Buckley, holy shit.”

“He’s like the Mike Tyson of MMA, especially in this fight.”

“I may have seen the knockout coming as Buckley started to get better at striking in rounds 2 and 3.”

Meanwhile, UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad added: “Wow, Mike Tyson Buckley.”

Immediately following his stunning win, Buckley challenged former 170-pound king Kamaru Usman.

He said, “I’m glad you asked me that. Look, I feel like I need to fight one more time before I fight for the belt.”

“And I love Belal, so I’ll leave you with Shavkat (Rakhmonov).

“But Usman, get your ass out here in the Octagon. Everyone wants to see this fight, let’s go!”

Alex Pereira gives Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall the same score by ranking the UFC stars 1-10

“I'll put my 5-0 record against your three losses and let's get it. Let’s see who will win.”

Buckley gained attention in 2020 with a stunning spinning heel kick knockout victory over Impa Kasanganay.

He initially started in the middleweight division, where he exchanged victories and defeats with opponents of different strengths.

But he hasn't tasted defeat since moving to welterweight, winning five straight fights against André Fialho, Alex Morono, Vicente Luque, Nursulton Ruziboev and now Thompson.
