NC State quarterback Grayson McCall was carted off the field in a horrific scene in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Wake Forest after apparently suffering a hard blow to the head that sent his helmet flying.

McCall, 23, was injured while battling for first down on 3rd-and-11. He ran nine yards before being hit by several Wachwald Defender.

The impact of the tackle sent McCall's helmet and mouthpiece flying. He appeared to lie motionless on the ground as his teammates, including wide receiver Keenan Jackson, signaled for medical staff to come over.

The ball was still in play when Wake Forest defender Evan Slocum, who had not been involved in the tackle, recovered the ball and ran it before being brought down around the 1-yard line.

After McCall had braces applied, he was carried out of the stadium on a stretcher. He raised his hand to fans before reportedly heading to a hospital for further examination.

McCall, who transferred in January as a graduate student after five seasons at NC State Carolina Coast, was in his first game back after suffering an unspecified injury on September 14 against Louisiana Tech.

Saturday's injury is a concern as McCall has already suffered a concussion. After to ESPN, He suffered a serious head injury last season that ended his 2023 season and nearly cost him his career.
