We're getting closer to the Boston Bruins starting the 2024-25 season without goaltender Jeremy Swayman. The closer we get to opening night on October 8, the more it looks like the former University of Maine goaltender won't be between the pipes for the Black and Gold.

That would likely leave Boston with a duo of Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi to start the season, and likely keep the duo until Swayman is signed. The Bruins and Swayman have until December 1 to finalize a deal for this season, and it looks like that could become a possibility. That wouldn't be good.

Boston faces a massive schedule in October and November, and without Swayman in goal, things could get very tricky for Jim Montgomery's team. You can't win a division in the first few months, but you can definitely get behind eight-ball in the standings, especially if you're playing in the Atlantic Division. One NHL insider believes that if something doesn't happen with Swayman soon, it could be a while before his contract expires.

NHL Insider offers a scary take on Jeremy Swayman and Bruins

NHL insider Jimmy Murphy, a Bruins reporter, expressed his opinion on the Fifth Liners Podcast that unless something happens soon, both sides could settle for Swayman in goal for Montgomery in the long run.

“I think it will last until December 1st,” Murphy said. “I really think if we don’t see anything in the next two weeks, it’s going to be tough in the long run and the Bruins are going to be in trouble.”

If that ends up being the case, this isn't the best scenario for the Bruins heading into the season. What was once a strong point over the last two seasons with Swayman and Linus Ullmark suddenly becomes a big question mark for Boston. Goaltending is not a position in the NHL where it is a question mark, especially if you feel like you are a contender. If it comes to that, it will certainly be interesting for the black and gold.
