Parents and students get ready, the school is only closed for one day.

Palm Beach County public school students are off Thursday, Oct. 3, for Rosh Hashanah, which begins at sunset on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and ends at nightfall on Oct. 4.

Rosh Hashanah literally means “Head of the Year” and is just that – the Jewish New Year and one of the holiest days in Judaism. It marks the beginning of the Hebrew calendar year. The exact date of the Jewish High Holiday varies each year, with this year's holiday falling on October 3rd.

In Palm Beach County, students return to school on Friday, October 4th.

Students will receive an additional day off in October on Monday, October 14th. This day is celebrated as Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day.

Here are other important dates when students will be out of school until the end of the year:

  • Thursday, October 3rd: Rosh Hashanah
  • Tuesday, November 5th: Election Day
  • Monday, November 25th – Friday, November 29th: Thanksgiving
  • Monday, December 23rd – Friday, January 3rd, 2025: winter break; Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa
