Chevalier héroïque, Zhegrova délicieux, David clinic Liverpool ratings: Sensational Salah secures win against Bologna

After a Game 1 win in which Tarik Skubal dominated, the Detroit Tigers had their work cut out for them in Game 2 of this Wild Card series.

Manager AJ Hinch described their pitching situation as “chaos” and opted for an opener and bullpen game to get over the finish line and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Houston Astros countered with rising star Hunter Brown, and he struggled early.

It remained scoreless to start the sixth inning after the young star completely shut down the Tigers' lineup, giving up just one hit and striking out eight batters in his five frames.

If Detroit wanted to put themselves in a position to win Game 2, they needed someone on offense who could step up.

That's exactly what happened when Parker Meadows entered the batter's box as the first batter of the inning.

After committing a foul on the first pitch, he turned around on an infield pitch and hit a moonshot into right field that bounced off the foul pole, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Meadows was instrumental in Detroit's success in the second half of the year as he returned from injury and gave the lineup a major boost that made them the hottest team in the American League playoffs.

When his team needed him, he stepped up in a big way, bringing the Tigers to the brink of eliminating the Astros and ending their American League record of seven straight ALCS appearances.
