The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 in Game 3 NLDS: LA Dodgers fan who threw first ball at Padres player in Game 2 speaks out

Devin White is on the open market for the second time in seven months.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Tuesday that they have released the veteran linebacker, who signed a one-year deal in March. White never played a game for Philadelphia after losing a position battle to former Georgia star Nakobe Dean.

Eliot Wolf, the New England Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel, should call White.

White spent his first five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and developed into a star on their defense. He was a Pro Bowler in 2021 and a second-team All-Pro honoree in 2020. White finished the 2020 season with a career-high 140 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He averaged 130 tackles over three years in Tampa Bay.

The fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft is also only 26 years old.

New England needs an influx of talent, including at the linebacker position, after losing captain and starting linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley to a season-ending injury. Patriots linebackers Jahlani Tavai and Raekwon McMillan still need to fill the void. They were leaky when running and vulnerable when passing. Tavai performed better coming off the edge before the Bentley injury.

White might be able to help.

It wasn't long ago that he was a productive tackler in the middle of Tampa Bay's defense. He has demonstrated the ability to attack the quarterback (23 sacks) and force turnovers (nine).

The Patriots are in no position to turn away talent. They need to live up to their potential, especially when these darts won't cost them anything on the open market.
