The death of MLB hit king Pete Rose has sent the sports world into mourning and remembrance, as the polarizing Cincinnati Reds legend prompted many to share their thoughts and express condolences on social media.

When Rose speaks to sports fans, he evokes a wide range of emotions because he was one of the greatest ballplayers to ever step on the diamond and always gave his all to help his team win.

On the other hand, there is a huge cloud hanging over Rose's career after his gambling scandal led to a permanent ban from baseball and he remained on that banned list until his death despite numerous attempts to reinstate him.

But ESPN personality Mike Greenberg didn't want to dwell on the complexities of Rose's career and fame. Instead, he just wanted to remember the baseball player with his post on X.

“There has never been another player like Pete Rose in my life,” Greenberg wrote. “That’s how I’ll remember him, he played the game harder than anyone ever has.”

“Few athletes will leave behind more complicated legacies. Today is not the right day for that. Today let's just say credit to Charlie Hustle for playing the way we always dreamed of playing if we had the chance. #RIP”

Alex Rodriguez, who has courted controversy of his own during his MLB career, paid tribute to Rose with a short clip during their time together on Fox Sports in which he detailed how he used his hands in his signature swing.

“It absolutely breaks my heart to hear the devastating news of Pete Rose's passing,” Rodriguez wrote over the clip. “He always put a smile on my face when we worked together at Fox. He was truly original and one of one. No one loved baseball more than Pete and I will miss him terribly.”

Many other former MLB stars, like Wade Boggs, shared memories and photos with Rose.

MLB shared its statement on Rose despite the differences between the two parties.

“Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose’s family, his friends throughout the game, and the fans in his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Montreal and beyond who admired his greatness, courage and determination on the field. “May he rest in peace.”
