Sarasota and Manatee counties are currently at risk from Tropical Storm Milton. Here's the latest:

Below are the latest updates as Sarasota and Manatee counties prepare for another potentially devastating storm.

The National Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. update shows that Tropical Storm Milton is more organized and the path is still focused on the area between Sarasota and Tampa, but there are several factors that may affect where the storm ultimately ends up hits land.

“While the routing in this scenario generally matches well, there is still some variation in both the route and forward speed. Therefore, it is too early to indicate which parts of the Florida Peninsula will experience the worst impacts,” the NHC forecast said.

According to the meteorologist, it is also uncertain how much stronger Milton will become. The models suggest results from Category 1 to Category 5. The current NHC forecast predicts winds of 120 miles per hour, or Category 3, when Milton makes landfall.

“However, this is below the intensity consensus and it would not be surprising if the storm strengthens,” the NHC forecaster says.

Regardless of the specific details of possible Hurricane Milton, “confidence is increasing that a strong hurricane with life-threatening hazards will impact portions of Florida's west coast around the middle of this week,” the NHC forecast said.
