WELBECK CAPS GREAT COMEBACK AS BRIGHTON SINK SPURS

Danny Welbeck scored the winner as Brighton came from behind to stun Tottenham and secure a rollercoaster 3-2 win at the Amex Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou's visitors were the better team in the first half, with the in-form Brennan Johnson opening the scoring in the 23rd minute and has scored six goals in his last six games.

James Maddison doubled Spurs' tally at the start of the break with a low shot from the edge of the box that somehow wound its way through the hands of Seagulls shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen.

Brighton reduced the deficit three minutes into the second half when Yankuba Minteh capitalized on a mistake to score his first goal for the club.

It was the catalyst for a surreal turnaround when Georginio Rutter equalized just before the hour with a display of strength and skillful finishing before giving Welbeck the lead in the 66th minute.

With this result, Brighton ended a run of four Premier League games without a win and moved up to sixth place.

Tottenham's five-game winning streak in all competitions ends with a third-tier defeat in seven games, leaving them ninth.

Tottenham next host West Ham after the international break. Brighton visits Newcastle.
