The Prince of Wales stopped by to meet “legends” of his favorite football team

Prince William made a surprise visit to his favorite football team during his busy week.

On October 2, the Prince of Wales' team released photos of him meeting “legends” from Aston Villa's 1982 European Cup-winning squad. Prince William, 42, is known to be a fan of the Premier League team and appeared at the Champions League match against Bayern Munich at Villa Park on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.

“42 years later, our 1982 European Cup-winning legends are here on a historic evening for @AVFCOfficial,” Prince William's team wrote on X on October 2, posting two group photos showing Prince William behind the scenes can be seen.

“Ready for the first home game in this year's European adventure… #UTV,” it continued.

Prince William's team sent support with the hashtag “#UTV” and used an acronym for “Up the Villa,” a local slogan for “Go Team.”

The team of Prince William and Kate Middleton also shared one of the group photos on their Instagram page and posted it of Aston Villa FC with the caption “Royalty meets Aston Villa royalty.”

King Charles' son is a loyal football fan and president of the Football Association, the game's governing body in England. He has attended several Aston Villa games this year, occasionally bringing his eldest son and fellow fan, Prince George, 11.

On September 17th, Prince William sent congratulations directly to the team before the UEFA Champions League game against Young Boys from Switzerland.

“The last time @AVFCOfficial won in Europe's top competition was a month before I was born. Let’s hope tonight is the first step towards another European adventure!” he wrote in part online at the time.

The October 2 match between Aston Villa and FC Bayern Munich is highly anticipated as Aston Villa defeated the German team 1-0 in the 1982 European Cup final to win the cup for the first and only time in history, according to this Associated Press said.

The Prince of Wales made his surprise appearance at Villa Park for the big game after conducting the investiture ceremonies at Windsor Castle. There he and his wife Princess Kate had a special meeting with a young woman named Liz, 16, an aspiring photographer who is suffering from cancer.

Prince William invited Liz to take photos of the investiture as part of her “photo bucket list,” and Liz later wrote on social media that it was a pleasure to meet Prince William and Princess Kate.

“Such a lovely, sincere and friendly people. I'm overjoyed that my family and I had this experience,” the teenager wrote beneath the picture the palace shared of her hugging Princess Kate.

The 42-year-old Princess of Wales announced this in a statement Video message On September 9, she announced that she had completed her chemotherapy treatment and has held a few business meetings since then.
