Steelers fans react: Making the case for Russell Wilson to take over as starter Justin Fields gives an insightful message about the Pittsburgh Steelers offense

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. From winning Super Bowl XLVIII to being selected for nine Pro Bowl appearances, Russell Wilson seemed to be on the fast track to redemption. A serious calf injury barely kept Russell Wilson from making his regular season debut for the Steelers last month on September 8th. Nearly a month later, the missed games appear to be less precautionary measures and more or less to allow Justin Fields to continue leading the team without controversy.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Wilson will serve as the team's emergency quarterback for the fifth straight week in the event that both starting quarterback Justin Fields and backup QB Kyle Allen are sidelined with injuries.

Is there something here that Steelers fans, myself included, just don't see? Is this some kind of elaborate scheme to maintain Wilson's value as the NFL's starting quarterback even though he has actually lost the starting job to Fields?

As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for their Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, all eyes will be on Fields and his ability to keep Wilson in check.
