RUTHERFRORD COUNTY, NC (FOX Carolina) – Rutherford County Emergency Management is addressing false reports circulating on social media about a situation at Chimney Rock.

According to emergency management officials, no “special meeting” was held at Chimney Rock on October 2 to discuss the capture of the city by federal, state or local governments.

Officials also said there were two confirmed fatalities related to the storm and claims of “bodies everywhere” were unfounded.

Emergency Management encourages everyone to rely on verified information from official sources as they navigate this challenging time.

“False rumors not only cause unnecessary stress but also hinder our recovery efforts,” officials said.
