Veteran actress Simi Garewal had spoken about her relationship and friendship with late industrialist Ratan Tata years ago.

Actor Simi Garewal doesn't post on social media often. But on Thursday morning she made an exception. However, the occasion was grim. Simi mourned veteran industrialist Ratan Tata, who died in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. However, unlike the other tributes from Bollywood, her tribute was more personal. Not many people know, but Simi and Ratan Tata were in a relationship decades ago and remained friends even after that. On She wrote: “They say you are gone. It's too hard to bear your loss. Too heavy. Farewell, my friend. #RatanTata.”

Years ago, Simi had spoken about dating Ratan Tata for a short while when she was still active in Bollywood. The actor added that they parted ways but remained very close friends. In an interview with Times of India in 2011, Simi had said, “Ratan and I have a long history. He is perfect, he has a sense of humor, is humble and the perfect gentleman. Money was never his driving force. He is.” In India he is not as relaxed as he is abroad.

Simi Garewal was born in Ludhiana to an army officer and started acting in an English film in 1962. She later ventured into Bollywood and Bengali cinema and appeared in big films like Do Badan, Mera Naam Joker, Aranyer Din Ratri, Siddhartha and Karz. A new generation of viewers discovered her in the 90s and early 2000s as the host of her talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.

Ratan Tata's death

Ratan Tata, who was chairman of Salt to Software Group for more than two decades, breathed his last at 11.30 pm on Wednesday at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai. Tata, a Padma Vibhushan recipient, was in the intensive care unit of the hospital since Monday.
