CINCINNATI – Reds games will not be televised on Bally Sports next season.

Diamond Sports Group (DSG) said it plans to stop broadcasting games for 11 of the 12 Major League Baseball teams it currently has on its network in 2025. Diamond is the current operator of Bally Sports.

The Reds are one of seven teams under contract for the 2025 season. The other four teams' contracts ended after the 2024 season.

They announced the decision on Wednesday. They will continue to host Atlanta Braves games.

The Athletic reports that Major League Baseball was “blindsided” by the announcement.

“We have no information about what is being done,” MLB attorney Jim Bromley said at the court hearing, according to The Athletic. “We have not had the opportunity to review and now we are in court being asked to give our opinion.”

Diamond hopes to reach a new agreement with some of the teams they are giving up. It's unclear how Major League Baseball or the teams feel about renegotiating their television contracts.

“Today marks an important step forward for Diamond with the filing of a baseline plan designed to enable us to emerge from bankruptcy as a viable, sustainable company before the end of the year,” a Diamond spokesman said in a press release. “We have made suggestions to our MLB team partners regarding future plans and remain in discussions with them. We firmly believe that through our linear and digital offerings we have created the best economic and fan-friendly engine for all of our team partners.”

There are conflicting reports about the DSG's actual plans. Even if this is simply an attempt to renegotiate with teams like the Reds, it jeopardizes the future of Cincinnati baseball for Bally Sports.

The Reds generate around $60 million in local television rights revenue each season. It is an important source of income. This is big news that will take some time to answer – and could have a significant impact on the Reds.
