Dockers' union suspends strike until January 15, source says Where do Savannah Bananas play? What you should know for the 2024 schedule

The Detroit Tigers are in the postseason. When they return in October, they will face the Houston Astros in the Wild Card round. A tough test, but as one of the hottest teams in baseball in a crazy month, anything is possible. CBS Sports has predicted that rookie Jackson Jobe will make a big jump in the playoffs.

Not only did they predict he would break out, but Mike Axisa also said, “Jobe will be the K-Rod this year.”

Francisco Rodriguez, or K-Rod, was a six-time All-Star best known for setting the single-season save record with 62 in 2008. He was an elite closer for 16 years and had six seasons with 40 or more saves. But that is not the prediction.

In 2002, Rodriguez's rookie year, as a 20-year-old he played in just five games for the Los Angeles Angels during the regular season. Then, in the playoffs, he had his breakthrough.

On his way to helping the Angels win the World Series, he made 11 playoff appearances, allowing just four earned runs and striking out 28 in 18.2 innings. Then he took the baseball world by storm.

To predict this for Jobe is high praise, but something the 22-year-old could easily achieve.

The circumstances are similar to Rodriguez's in that he is underperforming in the regular season. In fact, Jobe pitched less. The right-hander appeared only twice, pitching four innings, allowing one hit and one walk and striking out two.

According to MLB Pipeline, he is the best pitching prospect in baseball and his talents can compete at the big league level. Scouts use the 20-80 scale to determine certain aspects of a player's game, with 50 representing average and 80 representing elite.

Jobe's three best pitches are considered “pluses.” His fastball, slider and changeup are all rated 60 or better. He hits 95-96 mph with a plus changeup and a “plus-plus” slider, his best pitch.

The rookie has been highly touted since being selected third overall and has done nothing to dispel the hype. In 21 minor league starts this season, he posted a 2.36 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 91.2 innings.

The biggest difference between Jobe and Rodriguez is that Jobe will likely return to the starting lineup next season. For now, he'll be a weapon out of the bullpen who can lose one inning at a time in the playoffs.
