The Simpsons is finally airing its “series finale” after 35 seasons

After entertaining audiences for decades, the popular show sent fans into a frenzy when it aired its “series finale.”

There were an incredible 35 seasons of The Simpsonswhich is why this sudden ending felt shocking to say the least.

Some of you aren't old enough to remember the very first episode, but some of you were there when this dysfunctional but lovable family appeared on our television screens.

They have been a household name ever since.

Despite running for so many seasons, the show showed no signs of slowing down… At least until now.

This is the part where we tell you that there are spoilers galore from here on out. Don't read any further unless you're ready to know what happens.

Surprisingly, the opening episode of season 36 featured an animated rendition of the former Simpsons' Author Conan O'Brien reveals that he was there to celebrate the end of the show.

“It is a great honor for me to be part of the series finale The Simpsons” explained O'Brien, “I knew I was the right man for the job because I hosted the final episode of three of my own shows, and counting…”

Given that this was supposed to be the first episode of a new season, viewers were unsettled by this announcement.

Of course, they had their doubts that this was really happening, as the Fox show is known for tricking its fan base in this way.

But like all brilliantly executed gags, it lasted a long time.

Her confusion and shock continued as the details of the “final episode” played on the screen.

According to O'Brien, AI was used to write the script for the finale, in which Bart eventually turns eleven. It's a momentous event that has never happened before in the entire series.

From then on, seriously classic parodies of the scenes you'd expect to see in such a finale began to appear, as popular characters remarked that they would “miss this place.”

There was even a constant reminder throughout the episode that this was the final episode, much to the confusion and dismay of fans who were tuning in.

It felt like this was truly the end.

But AI Bart was having none of it.

He wasn't happy with his 11th year and refused to blow out the candles on his birthday cake. This in turn led to Homer doing what he does best: strangling Bart out of frustration.

This final act of annoyance sparked a reboot of sorts, and normality suddenly returned when Bart was 10 years old again.

And so it ended… with a wild ride that led to a new, yet familiar, beginning.

Undoubtedly, this is a “series finale” that will be talked about for years to come, and who can blame these fans?
