There is no end in sight to Arizona's record-breaking October heat wave

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It was another warm start to the morning with a low of 86 degrees, breaking the previous record low of 83 degrees.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect for the valley. The high temperature will be 108 degrees, 13 degrees above our average. This will be another high temperature record. The old record was 107 and was set in 1980.

Today's high not only broke a daily record, it was also the ninth day in a row with record-breaking or near-record temperatures.

On average we should see lows in the low 70s this time of year.

Due to the dangerous heat, today is also a weather warning day. The first alert days last until Sunday as the heat warning has been extended until the weekend.

The persistent and unseasonably strong high pressure ridge over the southwest does not appear to be moving over the weekend and is causing very high temperatures. Look for highs of 109 or 110 degrees Thursday through Sunday. That's about 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of year in Phoenix.

There could be some relief next week. Weather models suggest that a trough of low pressure could move through our region and weaken the ridge of high pressure enough to cause temperatures to drop.

There is some uncertainty about how strong the depression might be and how far south it would travel. Both factors would influence how much we cool across Arizona. So far it looks like temperatures will start to cool down starting Tuesday and Wednesday.

We're forecasting 106 on Tuesday, with the possibility of highs near 100 by next Wednesday. Everyone stay cool.
