It's Wordle Wednesday, folks, and that means I have a puzzle for you. We'll get straight to the point:

“Think first of the person who lives in disguise,

He who trades in secrets and tells nothing but lies,

Next tell me whatever is the last thing that needs fixing,

The middle of the middle and the end of the end?

And finally give me the often heard sound,

When searching for a hard to find word.

This really amazed me, even though I guessed the “O” straight away. FLOAT left me with a whopping 270 remaining possible solutions, and SPINE only reduced that number to 37. Ouch. GOURD seemed like a natural next guess—after all, I had to exclude the “U”—but apparently there were five words left. I could only think of two: HOBBY and MOM, and I chose the wrong one. Apparently others, like COCKY, were an option, so I guess I got lucky with five too. Huzzah?

How to Play Competitive Wordle

• Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
• If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
• Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
