Tropical Storm Kirk is forming in the Atlantic and is not expected to impact Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – Days after Florida and the southeastern United States felt the force of Hurricane Helene, another tropical storm formed in the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Kirk formed Monday morning with sustained winds of 45 mph.

The National Hurricane Center expects it to strengthen into a hurricane by midweek.

Meanwhile, there is a 40 percent chance of a disturbance developing in the Western Caribbean next week as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and moves over deep, warm water.

FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg said depending on where this area extends, heavy rains could reach the Bay Area during the second half of next weekend and into next week.

“We just don’t know how much or if it will turn into something significant,” Osterberg said. “But it’s something we’ll have to watch closely over the next few days.”
