Warm and windy Saturday increases the fire risk

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Unfortunately, an easterly breeze will be blowing through the afternoon which will moderate our highs a bit. Values ​​in the low to mid 70s seem likely. If you have plans for Friday evening, it should be a great evening to be out and about. However, if you are traveling late, a light jacket may be necessary.

Your first warning: Windy and dangerously dry

A cold front with stronger southerly winds awaits us on Saturday. This could result in some gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph, which would make for quite a breezy wind. These winds and lots of sunshine will also push temperatures into the mid to upper 80s.

Rain… for some

A series of early morning showers and thunderstorms brought some moisture to southern Iowa, with more than a trace of it seen in some places. Reports of 0.2″ around Iowa City, Marengo and even 1.6″ around Brighton in the southern part of our TV9 viewing area.

Further burning bans in force

Unfortunately most of us stayed dry and our dry and windy trend continues. For this reason, the risk of large-scale fires remains. Other districts in the TV9 viewing area have issued a ban on burning until further notice.

The weekend: Variable
